Oriental 'Companion'

From our Dutch crop trials, the first oriental blooming is 'Companion'.
With fresh bulbs, it's showing color in about 80 days (Dutch winter/spring climate)
This is far ahead of other varieties!
Companion have a good budcount, workable with 3+ blooms from size 14-16 onwards.
From Dutch crop 2013, we have a good commercial volume available.
Companion is worth trying out.
USA research program presentation during DLD

During the Dutch Lily Days (from May 21~24), Dr. Bill Miller of Cornel University, will give a presentation at the Zabo Plant facility about the Flower Bulb Research program concerning Lilies.
The presentation will take place at Thursday May-23 and will be from 13.00~14.00 at Zabo Plant BV 't Zand (NH).

Chilean bulb production

Last month, we visited the bulb production fields in Chile.
We were very pleased to see the quality of the scales and commercial lots.
When the summer is coming up here in Holland, the Chilean lilies are getting ready for fall and winter: harvest, process and export.

Although, the Dutch winter still continues, all our sample lilies are above the soil in our test greenhouse. We are looking forward for the Dutch Lily Days and the month of June when all new trials can be analysed.

This is new oriental lily 'Severn' from Mak breeding. Great quality during winter forcing!
Our expectations are high for the future, looking at these large flowers.
OT winter forcing

We are very pleased to notice the quality of some new OT-hybrid varieties.
Grown in the test greenhouse from Mak breeding through the Dutch-winter. Under additional lights, the plants look very strong and large buds.

Variety highlight. Oriental ''Lodi''

Oriental 'Lodi' appeared as one of the most promising oriental varieties in our 2011 and 2012 trials. Also from Southern Hemisphere (Chile) grown bulbs, results are very good in multiple countries in the world.
Growers like Lodi because of the very large, upfacing buds / flowers and strong stems.
There is a reliable production planning from Dutch and Chilean crop as well for constant availability, year-round.

Chilean bulb production

Winter in Holland.
But in Chili, the Southern Hemisphere, the oriental lily bulbs keep growing under perfect weather conditions.
Currently, we receive the first impression from Chilean crop 2012 bulbs and overall quality looks pretty good.
IPM Essen

We would like to thank all our visitors for meeting with us last week during the IPM exhibition in Essen, Germany. We had a much better spot at the show this year.
In our spotlight with pleasent attention: the double oriental ROSELILY and the LILYLOOKS pot lily assortment.
We are already looking forward for IPM 2014 from January 28~31.

From January-22 till January-25, ZABO Plant will have a nice presentation Potlilium and cutflowers at the IPM exhibition in Essen, Germany.
2012 was our first time at this show and we were very satisfied. IPM is Europe's number one as far as (pot)plant fairs are concerned. We are looking forward to meet with you in our booth number 1E37.

Dutch Lily Days 2013

The third Dutch lily Days will be from Tuesday May-21 until Friday May-24 2013.
Please make your arrangements and inform us about your visit.
Besides the main varieties, we will exhibit a lot of novelties. Highlighted are new introductions like 'Firebolt', 'Red Empire', 'Lodi' and 'Metropolitan'. We have the double flowered oriental line of 'Roselily'. This year again expanded with some new varieties. Also for potlilies, Zabo Plant is your main partner. The 'LilyLooks' assortment of asiatic and oriental will be shown upfront. We will be more then happy to show you around in our 2011 constructed cool-storage facility and provide you with information about the improvements we made with packing and long term storage.

Oriental 'Metropolitan' appeared as one of the most promising oriental varieties in our 2011 and 2012 trials. Metropolitan shows a consistent budcount, strong stems, nice coloured buds and large flowers. In our summer-2012 greenhouse, Metropolitan was one of the interesting oriental varieties.

Millesimo is one of the most exclusive-looking oriental variety.
We are more then happy to supply Millesimo exclusively and we believe Millesimo can be high value for any cutflower lily program.
Till so far, we have not see any bad characteristics:
- Strong stems.
- Reliable bud count.
- Large, well coloured buds and flowers.
- Shining, thin-pink line on every flower petal edge.

Variety highlight Part I

We follow oriental Red Empire for a few years already.
Red Empire is true-red and the buds are well colored before opening.
Budcount seems to be acceptable, starting from bulbsize 14-16.
Stems are strong, although nog very tall.
More commercial trials in 2012 will provide us important information about stemlength etc. growing in soil and through warm conditions.
Trebbiano sleeve

Trebbiano is a very unique variety in our assortment.
This variety has the combination between a strong stem, good budcount and large flowers.
Also the vaelife/flowering period is very long.
We got a few beautiful bunches of LA-hybrid 'Trebbiano' from Bredefleur.
This flowergrower grows 'Trebbiano' and sells every bunch with a special cover.
